Its all systems go as over 20 000 voting stations across the country officially opened on Wednesday morning.

To discuss the voting processes, 702's Bongani Bingwa speaks to Independent Electoral Commission (IEC)'s chief electoral commission Sy Mamabolo.

We are very happy that we have been able to open stations. Overall we are happy people have been processed. There are long queues, but that is fine because we need people to come.

This is their day, this is when they ought to come to shape the political future of the country by the choices they make, so from our vantage point we are happy.

Mamabolo reiterates that there are sufficient ballot papers at all polling stations.

If scanners are not available, voting must still happen as the authoritative and legal requirement is the voters roll.

He says people can call the contact centre if they have any queries about which polling station they should use to vote.

The number is 0800 11 8000 or people can interact with us on our social media platforms.

The issue of party tables outside polling stations - parties are entitled to be there, however, a voter does not need to go to that table, they can go directly to the voting station.
