Higher Education Minister Naledi Pandor braves the cold to cast her vote

The big day has finally arrived for South Africans to cast their votes.

Higher Education Minister Naledi Pandor was among those who braved the cold at the Claremont Primary School in Cape Town to cast her vote.

Speaking to CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies, Pandor says she enjoyed the experience to stand in the queue with other South Africans.

It's just an exhilarating experience. I only began voting when I was 39 and it always feels incredible to stand in that queue and know that I am exercising my democratic right to choose my public representative.

It was raining and we all had umbrellas and we were chatting, it was just great. The mood is lovely.
