2019 South African general election: Analysis and News

Are the results matching up to the 2019 polls?

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research executive manager Fulufhelo Nelwamondo says the voter turnout on national results will not reach 70 percent and that the CSIR expects it to stabilise at 65%.

The council has revised an initial projection of 71% of the population turning up at the polls.

On Thursday morning at 7am, with just over two million votes counted, voter turnout was standing at 64%.

Speaking on party results, Nelwamondo predicts that the African National Congress (ANC) will stand at about 57% of the national vote once all the votes have been counted.

We are still convinced we are going to end somewhere there with a plus or minus one percent error margin, but it will be within that range.

Our model from the beginning has been taking off the EFF sitting at the upper 9.8 and so on. We have been seeing them on the border of 10% and we still believe they are going to end there.

He says the FF Plus was a blind spot for analysts.

I think a lot of people who voted for the FF Plus seem to be coming from parties like the DA. It could have been a blind spot because people prised that into the DA's count.
