EFF now the official opposition in three provinces

While results continue to trickle in, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are the official opposition in Mpumalanga, North West and Limpopo.

Daily Maverick associate editor Ferial Haffajee says the EFF has always had strong support in Mpumalanga.

Speaking to Melanie Rice, Haffajje says the party has proven to be the story of the 2019 elections.

People didn't see how the party have established branch network and how it ran an election campaign that is quite similar to the ANC.

What it signals to us is a rise in popularism.

She says the ANC numbers are a clear message to the party from voters and that many people are still angry about state capture.
