'We were down but not out' - IFP shares its winning formula

The Inkatha Freedom Party's (IFP) national results are showing some kind of resurrection according to analysts.

By Friday afternoon the party had gathered 3.49 % of the vote with 542 150 ballots cast in their favour this week.

It has garnered 17% of the vote in KwaZulu- Natal as of Friday afternoon.

IFP spokesman Mkhuleko Hlengwa says coming from a difficult, past they have successfully inspired confidence with the electorate.

We had a splinter party, loss of municipalities and regained those in 2016 and we have been winning bi-elections. We have been modelling our campaign along bi-elections just for the trajectory.

Mkhuleko Hlengwa, Spokesperson - IFP

I remember saying in 2014 that we are down but not out. We are grateful for this outcome and believe it is good for the future.

Mkhuleko Hlengwa, Spokesperson - IFP

He says they had to go back to the basics of reorganising branches and constituencies.

We had a thorough audit of these branches which is part of the reason why conference was postponed.

Mkhuleko Hlengwa, Spokesperson - IFP

Hlengwa says a combination of all its efforts has culminated into a result which arrests an electoral decline and is a good footing for the coming elections in 2021.
