What to look forward to at the Franschhoek Literary Festival

This year marks the 12th edition of the popular Franschhoek Literary Festival, which brings together a cross-section of South African and international authors.

Festival director Shelagh Foster shares her top picks, stressing that with everything on offer, it's a tough choice.

There's one author that's really grabbed my attention... Nigerian-American author Chike Frankie Edozien... He's written a book called 'Lives of Great Men' which is one of the most beautifully written, moving books I have ever read.

Political discussions are a highlight of the festival.

This year's line-up includes Pieter-Louis Myburgh talking to Cape Talk's own Lester Kiewit about his book 'Gangster State' which uncovers the alleged corrupt dealings of the ANC's Ace Magashule.

It's not only about what was revealed, it's about how a writer investigates that kind of depth of information.

Foster says more spots have been added to some of the writing workshops that sold out quickly.

The festival takes place from 17-19 May.
