ANC confirms its premier candidates for seven provinces

The African National Congress (ANC) has confirmed the names of its preferred candidates for premier in eight of the provinces the party governs, except the North West.

The party held its first post-election NEC meeting on Monday to decide on the names recommended by provincial leaders. Each province suggested three names.

The list is as follows:

Eastern Cape - Oscar Mabuyane

Free State- Sisi Ntombela

Gauteng - David Makhura

KwaZulu-Natal - Sihle Zikalala

Limpopo - Stanley Mathabatha

Mpumalanga - Refilwe Mtsweni

Northern Cape - Zamani Saul

ANC spokesperson Dakota Legoete says they have made sure to cover all the guidelines.

What we have agreed is that in a province were we have a male premier, six of the member of the executive council need to be women. Ultimately we have agreed that, in all our provinces, our candidates for speakers positins are going to be women because we do not want to tamper much with the proposals as made by provinces.

Dakota Legoete, Acting national spokesperson - ANC

Legoete says a premier candidate in the North-West will be announced in due course following internal engagement.
