2019 South African general election: Analysis and News

Could former ANC mayors come back as Gauteng MECs?

Now that elections are over, political parties are deliberating on who to send to their specific legislatures.

On Monday the ANC released a list of the 8 premiers they will be appointing and David Makhura is set to return as the Premier of Gauteng.

Kgosientso Ramokgopa and Parks Tau are set to return to the legislature after losing their metros to the Democratic Alliance-led municipalities.

Eyewitness News reporter Clement Manyathela shares details on the two politicians and what their return may mean for the African National Congress's (ANC) governance in the province.

I think they still remain "heavy weights' in the African National Congress. They are actually looked at as people that did well in their administrations.

Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter

Manyathela suspects the two could become MECs.

This is also seen as a move to strengthen governance in Gauteng. So they are trying to bring in incredible people and I suspect we may see some of them making it as MECs when Premier David Makhura starts announcing his provincial Cabinet.
