Eusebius McKasier listens to recommendations on how to tackle the problem after Statistics SA released the latest figures.

The country’s unemployment rate has risen to 27.6% at the end of the first quarter of the year, according to Statistics South Africa.

Callers on the Eusebius McKaiser open line had a few suggestions on how to tackle the matter.

What about introducing compulsory military training for those who are not going on to further education. They can get a skill in the various departments. Military training would give them discipline in their lives.

In Botswana, we had a national service system. After completion of matric, the people would be sent out to different communities away from home in the process they would develop and acquire a particular skill. The government would only sponsor those who went through national service.
