Ramaphosa must have the courage to downsize Cabinet - Malegapuru Makgoba

President Cyril Ramaphosa is faced with a mammoth task of appointing his new Cabinet.

There are calls to downsize the bloated Cabinet of 35 ministers and 37 deputies.

Speaking at a meeting with investors and business people in Westcliff on Wednesday, Ramaphosa said his new Cabinet would form part of his reform package that he has planned for the country.

Azania Mosaka spoke to deputy chairperson of the National Planning Committee Professor Malegapuru Makgoba about the possibilities of downsizing Cabinet.

Professor Makgoba says there has been no explanation of how the Cabinet got bloated.

It has become a Cabinet of "let's stick together rather than let's work together".

He further says the country is sketching around the primary issues.

The problem in our country is that we talk a lot but we don't implement.

Professor Malegapuru Makgoba, National Planning Committee - Deputy Chairperson

We know the problems but we are scared to deal with them. And we also know our country is rich, that is why people steal money.

His advice to Ramaphosa is...

He should go back to the NDP and structure his Cabinet based on that.
