South African Saray Khumalo is on top of the world, summits Mount Everest

South African Saray Khumalo is the first black African women to summit Mount Everest.

She reached the summit on Thursday morning which is 9000m above sea level.

Saray was born in Zambia, with Rwandan heritage, but is now proudly South African.

She has made a number of previous attempts that were met with severe challenges and proved unsuccessful.

Deshun Deysel says it the most exciting news about mountaineering over the last decade and is overjoyed for Saraya.

All of us mountaineers, if we manage to get a title that's really fantastic because at the end of the day, it is up to weather and external conditions whether you make it or not...so we all celebrate each other when we are able to push through that.

She says your mental prep is just as important.

It's your mind that gets you through the rest of it. It's 90% mental.

Deysel describes details of what Saray would have experienced as she pushed to the summit.

She herself is part of a 4-women's team hoping to make the Everest journey in 2020 and says they are currently in training.

Saray's Everest success inspires us, even more, to keep on going for it.
