Today marks International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, which commemorates the decision to remove homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases by the World Health Organisation.

According to Norton Rose Fulbright PRIDE chairperson Ross Forgan, South Africa lacks sufficient benchmarks and policies that encourage individuals to be themselves and not have to create dual personalities for their work and personal lives.

As an organisation, we act as a network for LGBTQI employees as well as allies within our organisation and we try to be as visible as possible and to reinforce the idea that our firm is a safe place to be yourself at work.

The LGBTQI community, the one thing we have done well is hiding and it has been a survival mechanism in many jurisdictions and it continues to be a survival mechanism.
