Egypt Blast: This was an isolated incident and has been contained - Dirco

South Africans and Egyptians were among those injured after an explosion struck a tourist bus on Sunday near Egypt's famed pyramids.

Seventeen people are believed to be injured, and three are from South Africa.

To address the explosion, 702 Bongani Bingwa speaks to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mabaya.

It is clear that this was an isolated incident and not directly targeted at South Africans. Twenty Five of the 28 people have just landed at OR Tambo Airport, and the three who remain in Egypt will be looked after by the ambassador.

In South Africa, we have engaged with families, and all the logistics are in place.

He adds South Africa's diplomats will meet on Monday and engage with the Egyptian diplomats and advise on whether it is necessary to issue a travel advisory.

What we do know is that our law enforcement agencies are engaging with law enforcement agencies in Egypt to make sure that we understand the totality of the situation. But our initial reports are that this was an isolated incidence and it has been contained.
