Ramaphosa 'not losing sleep' over new Cabinet

President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially registered as an MP ahead of being formally elected as president on Wednesday.

He addressed the media following Tuesday's ANC caucus in parliament, ahead of Wednesday's swearing-in ceremony.

He was asked whether thinking about his new Cabinet was giving him sleepless nights, to which he responded 'No'.

He assured South Africans that the Cabinet he will announce soon will be well balanced... it will show a spread of demographics, a mixture of skills and of course a generational mix, some younger people too.

Former National Council of Provinces chairperson Thandi Modise is tipped to be named by the national executive committee as the speaker of the National Assembly, taking over from Baleka Mbete.

I think that her position is to be welcomed within the ANC certainly, but also among opposition parties who've had their issues with her predecessor Baleka Mbete.

Meanwhile, there've been some raised eyebrows over the predicted return of Nomvula Mokonyane to Parliament as chair of chairpersons.

Clearly what we're seeing here is some kind of horse-trading between the different factions of the ANC. Ace Magashule's camp on the one side and the Ramaphosa camp on the other side in terms of how these key positions are being divvied up.
