[LISTEN] What did you blow your first salary on? Callers share their stories

What did you spend your first salary on?

On Monday, South Africans took to Twitter to start the conversation.

Sharing his story, 702 show host Ray White says he spent his on a hi-fi for R 1 500 at a Hyperama.

From black tax to necessities such as clothing, callers shared their experiences on-air.

I bought clothes. I spent most of my time at university without clothes. I wore the same clothes everyday and had to wash my clothes and sleep naked at night so I would not stink... I bought myself clothes to look like a decent student. That was later in my third year or so.

Stanley, caller

I paid black tax. I paid my pay-as-you-earn and black tax as well. In rural areas, we have this 80kg mielie meal. I earned about R4 000 in 1995 and changed [my paycheque] into cash. I bought that 80kg and everyone was so happy.

Letlhogonolo, caller

I got paid weekly. I blew my money up at Access Park cause that is the first time I ever started wearing branded clothing.
