On Tuesday, the Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance (OSTI) released the 2018 annual operations report.
OSTI is responsible for providing a "fair and transparent dispute resolution mechanism" between consumers and short-term insurance providers.
Ombudsman Deanne Wood says the report is not an indication of performance by short-term insurers as reported in the media, but an analysis of the types of insurance products where consumers need to be more vigilant.

According to Wood, the trends have shown a high turnover in complaints about cellphone and travel insurance. These two products are a bit problematic when it comes to selling and handling of claims.
