African National Congress (ANC) veterans have applauded party deputy president David Mabuza from postponing his swearing-in as a Member of Parliament.
On Wednesday morning, President Cyril Ramaphosa released a statement saying Mabuza had requested a postponement of his swearing-in to deal with the party's integrity commission’s report, which said he had prejudiced the integrity of the organisation and brought it into disrepute.
ANC veteran Mavuso Msimang says he does not want to speculate around the timing of the deputy president's decision.
That is precisely what we asked for. We said people who feel that they are implicated in anything that might put the name of the African National Congress into disrepute should stand back until this is cleared— Mavuso Msimang, Veteran - ANC
He has done so, it is a good thing and I am happy that the integrity commission decided that there was something and confronted the case.— Mavuso Msimang, Veteran - ANC
The veterans have have also applauded former minister Malusi Gigaba for his withdrawal from the ANC’s parliamentary list.
