Everything expected to go smoothly at presidential inauguration, says GCIS

Nearly 32 000 South Africans are expected to attend Saturday's presidential inauguration at the Loftus Versfeld sports stadium in Pretoria.

Ten thousand walk-ins are also expected.

Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) deputy director-general Phumla Williams says emergency services and security will have the infrastructure to monitor the situation and make sure the number of people is not exceeded.

All of them [walk-ins] will have to be cleared, they will then be tagged and will be allowed to move inside. So even after 6:30am we are anticipating that there will be people walking in.

Phumla Williams, Deputy director-general - GCIS

She says walk-ins must obtain accreditation to enter the stadium. Accreditation will be open between 3am and 7am at Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool, popularly known as Affies.

The accreditation takes place at Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool. Even the walk-ins will have to walk to Affies, not straight to the stadium.

Phumla Williams, Deputy director-general - GCIS

Shuttle services will be provided to people with disabilities.

Williams adds that provisions have been made for public viewings at various venues.

The security cluster are very meticulous in terms of planning for events of this magnitude so we are anticipating that everything will go according to plan, with the assistance of the public.
