JMPD calls for probe after Bree Street taxi rank shooting

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson Wayne Minnaar rubbished claims that JMPD officers are working with security guards after a shooting ensued at Bree Taxi Rank in Johannesburg CBD.

This is after a hawker was left in a critical condition after a security guard allegedly shot him in the face.

According to eyewitnesses, the hawkers pelted stones at the security guards, accusing them of illegally confiscating their goods.

Minaar says the person who shot the hawker must be investigated and charged criminally.

We do work with security companies for crime-prevention reasons but in this particular incident where the hawkers are complaining of wrongdoing on behalf of the security company and the fact that the so-called security guard has shot a hawker in the face, must be investigated.

The perpetrator needs to be charged so that he can appear before the court.
