Buang Jones says he has received calls telling him to abandon the inquiry into the Alexandra service delivery mess.

The South African Human Rights Commission's (SAHRC's) Gauteng provincial manager Buang Jones says he will not be deterred by threats over an investigation into service delivery issues in Alexandra, Johannesburg.

Jones has told Eyewitness News reporter Edwin Ntshidi that he has received threatening calls telling him to abandon the inquiry.

Ntshidi has the full report.

He has informed his superiors about those threats and he has got support from all the commissioners across the country, saying they are also considering protection for all the panellists who are dealing with the Alex matter.

Edwin Ntshidi, Reporter - EWN

The SAHRC, in partnership with the Public Protector's office, held its third sitting on Monday, with testimony from the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta).

The third session questioned Cogta officials. Cogta here in Gauteng is headed by its head of department Thandeka Mbassa , who has explained how lawlessness is a problem in Alex. She also questioned the panel as to what happens if others are abusing other persons' human rights.

Edwin Ntshidi, Reporter - EWN

The other issue that came up was a lack of public participation. Mbassa says government needs to change the public participation model because councillors do not have the ability or capacity to deal with the public, for instance in public meetings.
