Western Cape Transport MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela says fixing Metrorail's woes remains his top priority.
He will work closely with Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula to find ways to fix rail transport.
You can build as many roads as you want but if you don't fix the public transport you will be missing the point completely.— Bonginkosi Madikizela, Transport MEC - Western Cape Government
Public transport is my priority because for the majority of the people in the Western Cape that is the mode of transport that they are using.— Bonginkosi Madikizela, Transport MEC - Western Cape Government
Madikizela says technology is going to be key in how government revolutionalises how it does business, particularly within the public transport space.
Madikizela will be working on replacing torched trains and ensuring that rail transport is safe.
He says he is willing to put differences with Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure and former Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille aside and put the interest of the voters first.
My differences with Patricia de Lille were never personal. We need to work together to make sure we deal with issues related to public works. I have to work with Fikile Mbalula [transport minister] to make sure we deal with challenges related to transport as well as Bheki Cele [police minsiter] to get the safety of our passengers.— Bonginkosi Madikizela, Transport MEC - Western Cape Government
