Commuter safety tops list of priorities for Western Cape new Transport MEC

Western Cape Transport MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela says he is looking into intensifying security on trains to ensure the safety of commuters.

He says the agreement between his department, the City of Cape Town and Prasa for the rail enforcement agency of trains will be lapsing at the end of June.

The contract will then be reviewed to see where it can be improved before a new contract is signed.

Madikizela says they are considering the use of technology on trains to deal with criminal elements that put the lives of commuters at risk and obstruct the effectiveness of the rail system.
