Petrol attendant Nkosikho Mbele asks BackaBuddy to hold his funds for now

The story of a petrol attendant who paid R100 for Monete van Deventer's petrol has continued to go viral.

Nkosikho Mbele's kind gesture touched many South Africans who decided to donate money to help him through a Backabuddy crowdfunding campaign.

Backabuddy chief operating officer Catherine Du Plooy says the donation is currently sitting at R450 000.

She says Mbele has contacted Backabuddy and asked that the money be kept in their account for a little while until he decides how to use it.

Because the campaign gained traction very quickly, Nkosikho hasn't had time to sit back and think and plan in terms of what he would like to do with the money.

We received a phone call from him on Sunday saying that he is a little bit fearful. He fears for his life now that people know that he has access to so much money.

He requested that we hold the funds for him until such time he has thought about what he wants to do. When he has made up his mind in terms of how he would like to utilise the funds then we will transfer it to him.
