Owning up to your privileges is an act of humanity, says Danny K

Shout Foundation trustees and Musos Kabelo Mabalane and Danny K have partnered to bring communities together through 'Worlds Apart or Partners' initiative.

For the Worlds Apart or Partners, the couple spent a year researching ways to teach South Africans to come together.

The two musos' campaign, Shout Foundation, aims to see a safer South Africa for all.

Mabalane explains what led to the foundation.

We found ourselves in the middle of last year where everywhere you went there was a lot of racial tension.

Kabelo Mabalane, Musician and Shout Foundation co-founder

There is a lot of wounds that are still healing and there is a lot of misunderstanding about those wounds and the speed they should heal.

Danny K says they involved academics in setting up the project.

We wanted to use our lives as a backdrop and what we have done right and done wrong to try and help. We are not academics.

Owning up to your privileges or responsibilities doesn't mean you are going to have to kneel at people's feet and beg for forgiveness. It is an act of humanity and acknowledgement.
