Sacca wants Ramaphosa to intervene as SAA's Vuyani Jarana prepares to step down

The South African Cabin Crew Association (Sacca) says it wants an amicable solution to problems facing the South African Airways (SAA) as the airline's group CEO Vuyani Jarana prepares to step down.

Jarana announced his resignation at the weekend, stating that he was unable to turn around the national airline due to inconsistency in state funding.

It's expected he will serve out a three-month notice period.

Sacca has threatened strike action if Jarana is not reinstated.

The association wants to engage with President Cyril Ramaphosa, as well as various stakeholders, over the matter.

Sacca President Zazi Nsibanyoni says they were shocked at Jarana's resignation.

He stated very clear reasons as to what led him to resign, amongst those are lack of support. We are merely saying that should he get the support he requires there should be no reason for him to resign.

Zazi Nsibanyoni, President - Sacca

In our view, he resigned because he had no other option.

Zazi Nsibanyoni, President - Sacca

We have been here with him as workers and unions, working alongside trying to follow the vision he has put forward to us. This was a shock to us.

Zazi Nsibanyoni, President - Sacca

We cannot have a CEO leaving because of lack of support.
