Eh! Woza initiative raises awareness of TB through film making

Learners in Cape Town are being encouraged to tell personal stories about tuberculosis (TB) in their community.

Eh! Woza is a collaboration between South African biomedical researchers, a conceptual artist, an NGO, and youth from Khayelitsha.

The initiative supports learners as they create documentaries telling stories about how their communities are affected by TB.

Rates of tuberculosis in Cape Town are among the highest in the world.

Eh! Woza co-founder Anastasia Koch says there are multiple contributing factors.

Poverty, overcrowding, unemployment... HIV is a huge contributor.

Anastasia Koch, Co-founder - Eh!Woza

Often learners go out looking for stories about TB but other things start coming through; poverty, gender-based violence.

Anastasia Koch, Co-founder - Eh!Woza

It really shows how in South Africa a disease like TB can't be separated from other social factors.
