Eusebius dissects the Karima Brown vs EFF ruling

Veteran journalist Karima Brown successfully won her legal case against the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the High Court on Thursday.

The court found that the EFF contravened the electoral code following the publication of her cellphone number on social media by party leader Julius Malema.

Eusebius McKaiser dissects the judment in detail.

She wanted the court to declared that the EFF had violated the electoral code of conduct. She had also hoped that they would be fined.

And also an apology to take place on Twitter where the initial harm had been done. She also wanted R100,00 and a cost order in her favour.

For me, the most important thing which is really important for media freedom in this country is that the court decided that Karima was spot on that the EFF had violated the electoral law.
