Selfe has been in this role for 19 years.

To discuss Selfe's move, Ray White, standing in for Bongani Bingwa, chats to DA chair Athol Trollip.

I think he did his job extraordinary well and received an emotional standing ovation from the whole federal council when the announcement was made.

He says the elections were disappointing for the party and the federal congress intended to be reflective to see where they went wrong and to look forward.

To look forward to seeing where we are going to get voter support markets and how we are going to mobilise those voters who were lethargic.

Athol Trollip, Federal chairperson - DA

Trollip says Selfe will head the party's governance unit to make sure that the DA governs in a transparent manner.
