Family laying charge against cop accused of shooting dog at point-blank range

A case of animal abuse has come to light after a police officer allegedly shot a dog in front of his owners in Scottsdene near Kraaifontein.

Communications, Resource Development and Education Manager at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA Belinda Abraham talks to Kieno Kammies about the issue.

The family wishes to lay a charge.

The SPCA is assisting the family with regards to the compilation of the docket.

She says the SPCA has been informed that the family was attempting to put the dog away safely when the police officer allegedly shot the dog.

It posed no threat to anybody and their story is that the dog was shot at point-blank range.

It is so upsetting because this is someone who is meant to uphold the law and abuses a position of power and contravenes the law.

It will not be a matter that will be allowed to rest and it will be taken the full distance.
