Joy of Jazz to host educational workshop for youth

Joy of Jazz will be conducting an educational and development workshop at the Apollo Hotel in Johannesburg aimed at youth who want to pursue a career in music.

The event will take place between 27 and 28 June.

Joanne Joseph spoke to festival producer and general manager at T Musicman, Mantwa Chinoamdi, to find out more.

Chinoamdi says the workshop will introduce young people to alternative careers in the industry.

I think everyone seems to think to be in the limelight you have to be at the centre of the stage, they do not know what happens in the background so we are teaching them that for that artist to be there, somebody must have done PR work, marketing, a technical company must have sat with the artist to say what are your stage requirements....

One of the guest speakers will be jazz singer and music teacher Nomfundo Xaluva, who will teach attendees about music royalties.

Chinoamadi says free transport is being offered.

This is a free workshop. The deadline to apply is on Friday and we are left with a few seats.
