The African National Congress Youth League's (ANCYL) disgruntled members are calling for the national executive committee (NEC) to be disbanded.
They say the league should be returned to its rightful owners, which is the youth.
Bongani Bingwa chats to ANCYL member Lufefe Mkutu.
I am against the notion that the youth league in its historic mission doesn't need to exist. Because it has been vital in galvanising young people around popular struggles of South Africa.— Lufefe Mkutu, Member - ANCYL
Mkutu adds that ANCYL has always been key in ensuring "it guides and infuses a fresh perspective in the broader politics of the ANC."
The youth league in itself is an important platform, but its leadership has resulted in a decline in ANCYl's efforts to engage with society effectively.
That is why we have a redundant ANCYL - because it is led by old people that insist that they are young.— Lufefe Mkutu, Member - ANCYL
