'These people will be found' - Cele pledges to find Samora Machel cop shooters

Police on Thursday continued to hunt for a second suspect in connection with the shooting of six officers during an operation in Samora Machel informal settlement in Cape Town on Wednesday morning.

The area remains on shutdown in light of escalating gang violence.

During a visit to the area on Wednesday afternoon, Police Minister Bheki Cele pledged to find those responsible for the shooting.

These people will be found. Not only these that did this to our members but generally, we will be approaching this with the seriousness it deserves.

Bheki Cele, Minister of Police

EWN reporter Kevin Brandt has been following the story.

He (Cele) made it clear that organised crime in Cape Town in particular in the Cape Flats is deeply rooted and of an intense nature.

Brandt says residents in Samora Machel are looking for a long term solution to the violence.

A lot of the residents here feel that a more permanent solution to the problem must be found. Not only a reactionary process.

A 26-year-old was arrested in Paarl in connection with the shooting on Wednesday.
