Records related to the Waterkloof Air Force Base case to be released to the state capture commission.

Former public protector Thuli Madonsela says the investigation surrounding the Gupta Waterkloof landing was concluded although the report was incomplete.

Questions have been raised as to why the report has not been released.

Public Protector spokesperson Oupa Segalwe says Madonsela did not focus on the landing according to a complaint and request by Democratic Alliance MP David Maynier, but instead the investigation related to Lieutenant-colonel Christine Anderson’s complaint that the probe was irregular.

Segalwe says there is documentary proof.

When she left the investigation was still underway and the Public Protector picked up on where she left off focusing on the two issues that were already identified. Subsequently, that investigation was overtaken because, during its pause, the South African National Defence Force convened a board of inquiry to look into the issue and then it arrived at a conclusion that there should be military prosecution of Colonel Anderson.

Madonsela says through investigating the Anderson complaint, the public protector's office got to investigate the whole matter.

Everyone in the Public Protector who was involved in this knows that at that stage all we needed to do was finalise the report. The investigation that was done, answered the very same questions that would have been answered, had we investigated the matter according to the DA complaint,

Madonsela suggests that the matter be referred to the state capture commission.

Let us release every letter I wrote to everyone, every letter the investigators wrote, all the interviews I had and the radio footage that we got and the commission will decide whether that information that we dug out was information that the public deserved to hear.

Thuli Madonsela, former Public Protector

Segalwe says Public Protector Busisiwe Mkwehbane has received a request from the commission for the records related to the case to be released.

The Public Protector will comply as she has done with other matters referred to the commission.
