Could Cosatu and SACP align with Magashule's faction? Journalist weighs in

According to the Mail & Guardian, the African National Congress's (ANC) alliance partners, the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) and the South African Communist Party (SACP), could align with the 'leftist' rhetoric echoed by the faction of the Ace Magashule in the ANC.

The alliance partners have previously been vocal against populist leaders, who they feel have taken their leftist positions for fractional gains.

But with their ideas not being heard in the ruling party, could the two be forced to align with Magashule's group who they've previously criticised?

To discuss these latest developments between the alliance partners and the ANC, Bongani Bingwa chats to political editor Natasha Marrian.

Cosatu union leaders discovered in 2017 that this grouping was vulgarising their literature and initially they didn't know how to respond as they support President Cyril Ramaphosa and on the other hand, these are long-standing policies which the left have held.

She adds that this alignment could have an impact on Ramaphosa if he chooses to ignore the leftist movements and their ideas.

Going forward, if Ramaphosa has to take some hard decisions with regards to public services, that fight could come to a head.
