Kempton Park residents have been without electricity for almost a week.
The outage was caused by an explosion at the Glen Marais substation due to cable theft.
Bongani Bingwa chats to City of Ekurhuleni head of department for electricity and energy Mark Wilson to discuss the outages.
We understand people's frustrations, especially now that we have this cold spell coming through. We managed to get most of the customers back on Wednesday, and we are trying to put other customers on depending on the total load. We asked that customers can use electricity sparingly. Unfortunately, we didn't get all the customers back on.— Mark Wilson, Head of department for electricity and energy - City of Ekurhuleni
He adds that they tried to connect the remainder of the customers, but due to cable faults, they couldn't.
The two remaining areas that we have a problem with are Allen Glove and Glen Marais, we have resolved those problems, and we are trying to energise in the next hour or so and we should be able to carry all the load.— Mark Wilson, Head of department for electricity and energy - City of Ekurhuleni
Wilson says if all goes well everyone in Kempton Park should have power by midday today.
