W Cape govt plans 'disruptive' gang violence solution as youth death toll rises

Over 2000 young people have died in gang-related violence since November last year, says Western Cape Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz.

Fritz speaks to Kineo Kammies and outlines his department's plan in trying to reduce the impact of violence on today's youth who are exposed to gangs, rampant substance abuse, and domestic violence.

I think now we have come to a stage where we need to be disruptive. We really need to think differently around the way of dealing with these issues.

Albert Fritz, Community Safety MEC - Western Cape Government

Fritz calls on the police "to get their house in order" by responding on time when people call help. He also wants the South African Police Service (Saps) to sort out its internal conflicts.

Our people are dying and we don't have time for their little petty infighting.

Fritz has committed to coming up with a plan that will involve all governmental departments in addressing gang violence in the Western Cape.
