Fikile Mbalula calls for law transgressors to be dealt with severely

Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula says those who break the law must be dealt with accordingly.

Forty-two people have died in separate accidents in Limpopo over the 16 June long weekend.

Mbalula visited families of the people who died when a minibus collided with a bus along R81 in Maphalle in the Mopani region.

It is reported that the minibus taxi was carrying 10 more people above its capacity.

Speaking to Joanne Joseph, Eyewitness News reporter Edwin Ntshidi says Mbalula also touched on the demerit system.

He said law transgressors should be dealt with severely. He also said those who are transgressing must have their licences taken.

I expected the minister to talk about the taxi which he had 24 people, but he didn't say anything.

I am told by some sources in Limpopo that overloads are the order of the day.

Ntshidi says the police are also saying that the stretch of road is dangerous.
