[VIDEO] DA's Van Damme accuses family of racism, V&A Waterfront apologises

On Tuesday, Democratic Alliance Member of Parliament (MP) Phumzile Van Damme claims she was subjected to a racist tirade at Cape Town's V&A Waterfront and wants action taken.

In the video below a clearly upset Van Damme recounts the events to a V&A security manager who appears to do nothing.

Van Damme claims she was in a store queue at the popular mall when a woman standing with her family had an argument with her. Upon leaving the store, Van Damme says the family acted in a 'threatening manner' with the son coming right up close to her face and allegedly said "voetsek you black", threw her phone on the ground, after which she says she punched him in self-defence.

Around 9pm on Tuesday night the V&A responded to Van Damme with an apology on Twitter. She thanked them for the apology writing 'Please train your staff better and I am glad to see your commitment to banning anyone from your mall who exhibits racist behaivour.'

She says the CCTV footage she requested can only be viewed by the police and she will be laying a charge on Wednesday.
