DA 'shocked' by some names included on parliamentary committee chairpersons list

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says its shocked by some of the names put forward as possible chairs of Parliament's portfolio committees.

On Wednesday, The African National Congress (ANC) announced the names of members it wants to be committee chairs in Parliament.

Among them are Bongani Bongo, Mosebenzi Zwane, Faith Muthambi and former North West premier Supra Mahumapelo.

DA Chief Whip John Steenhuisen says these are some of the people at the heart of the state capture project.

It is very clear that it is going to be difficult for Mr Cyril Ramaphosa and others to lead the fight against state capture.

As the opposition I think we are duty bound to field alternative candidates. To simply allow these people to be elected unopposed would spell a disaster for the future.
