The Dis-Chem Foundation is launching its annual Million Comforts campaign, where its partner with shoppers and major feminine hygiene brands to donate millions of sanitary pads to school girls with the objective of keeping them in school.
The campaign will run until 31 July.
In their random act of kindness, the foundation, along with the Imbumba Foundation, will be donating sanitary towels to pupils at the Winnie Mandela Secondary School in Tembisa and other schools.
The representative of the Imbumba Foundation, Richard Mabaso says they have been working with Dis-Chem since the campaign kicked off in 2015.
We have been going to Winnie Mandela Park basically every month. We had some really incredible stories whereby girls who are coming from disadvantaged backgrounds do not even have a place to change a sanitary pad at home.— Richard Mabaso, Representative - Imbumba Foundation
Dis-Chem Foundation's trustee Sherry Saltzman says it is important for the young girls to stay in school.
She explains how the campaign works.
Customers go in store, purchase a pack of pads, they put it into a collection bin. The pads are collected by Richard and distributed to the different schools. For every packet of pads bought, it is being brand matched.— Sherry Saltzman, Trustee - Dis-Chem Foundation
