Denzil Daniels, who has special needs, went missing from his home in Delft six years ago and his family presumed he was dead.

A man who went missing from his home in Delft six years ago has been found sleeping rough on the streets of Eswatini.

Police there contacted their counterparts in South Africa after they found Denzil Daniels looking for food in rubbish bins at a shopping centre and he gave the officers his mother's address in Cape Town.

Denzil, who is mentally challenged, went missing in 2013 while on his way home from the shops with his father.

His dad just popped in by a neighbour and gave the groceries to Denzil to take home and that was six years ago. That very day he went missing.

Pastor Charles George, Chairperson - Delft CPF

Pastor Charles George of Delt Community Policing Forum says the question as to how Denzil ended up in another country with no paperwork remains a mystery.

We want to find out how it's possible for a guy like Denzil to land up in Swaziland without documentation.

Pastor Charles George, Chairperson - Delft CPF

After years spent searching, Denzil's family were so convinced that he had died, they held a memorial for him.

The family is now facing a further challenge of bringing Denzil back home.

We're asking citizens and the business community for some financial assistance... we need to go and get him, we need to go to Home Affairs. The Swazi police can't hold him any longer, it's a financial issue and he's classed as an illegal immigrant.

Pastor Charles George, Chairperson - Delft CPF

Pastor George says there's concern for how he will adjust to life back in Cape Town.

Denzel is not aware that his father and a brother have passed on, when he gets home he will be exposed to all these things. We are a bit concerned about what his reaction will be.
