Despite strong denials from Parliament, AfriForum on Friday claimed that a warrant of arrest had been issued for National Assembly speaker Thandi Modise.
A warrant for non-appearance was authorised by the magistrate.— Andrew Leask, Investigator - AfriForum's private investigative unit
The Speaker had been due to appear in court in Potchefstroom to face charges of animal cruelty.
Modise is accused of leaving a farm she owns unattended in 2014, resulting in the deaths of more than 50 pigs and other livestock due to a lack of food and water.
Ms Modise's counsel asked for the warrant to be held over until the next date, which is the 22nd of July.— Andrew Leask, Investigator - AfriForum's private investigative unitt
However, Parliament refutes AfriForum's claims that a warrant was issued.
Parliamentary spokesperson Moloto Mothapo says an apology was issued to the court on behalf of Modise and the case postponed.
There is absolutely nothing like that.— Moloto Mothapo, Parliamentary spokesperson
There was supposed to be an appearance by the Speaker at the court in Potchefstroom this morning, but as the nation knows, she was presiding over the State of the Nation Address until late last night. She could not have been in Potchefstroom early this morning.— Moloto Mothapo, Parliamentary spokesperson
