Joanne Joseph spoke to Wellbeing in Schools and Education co-founder Carol Surya.

Wellbeing in Schools and Education (W.I.S.E ) co-founder Carol Surya says mindfulness and yoga are useful in educaion because of the demands of learning, as well as the social and emotional interaction that goes on through the day.

She says some of the benefits include focus, compassion amongst each other and better memory.

Surya describes some of the activities that can be used to practice mindfulness.

Friday was International Day Yoga.

It doesn't have to be a 30 minute lesson. A mindfulness task is anything where a child is just fully present and aware in the moment, so it can even be a beautiful breathing exercise.

Carol Surya, Co-founder - Wellbeing in Schools and Education

What we like to do at W.I.S.E is affirmation, so when the child stands in a tree pose they say an affirmation.

Carol Surya, Co-founder - Wellbeing in Schools and Education

It has a beautiful effect on learning.
