'No, you don't have to pay' - Listeners share heartwarming acts of kindness

With so much bad news coming at us from different sources every day, it's easy to sink into a state of doom and gloom.

To remind us that good things do also happen, Phemelo Motene asked listeners on Weekend Breakfast to share any random acts of kindness they've recently experienced.

Henry phoned in from Edenvale with his story - the retiree uses an electric scooter to go and do his shopping because he can no longer walk.

He says as he was trying to take out his money at the till, he discovered a kind young man had already paid for his groceries.

I was fumbling in my wallet to get my money out and I gave the money to the cashier and then she said, 'you don't have to pay - that young man who was in front of you paid for you'.

He said, 'I want to do something for you' and I burst into tears.

Sephudi also had a story of a stranger stepping in to help him. A factory owner apologised for not being able to give him a job, but then gave him money.

He called someone from the finance department... he said, 'give Sephudi R2 000'.

I said, this is how good South Africans are... We don't highlight it.
