SA adds 22 000 jobs in first quarter of 2019 - Stats SA

Statistics SA director for quarterly statistics Matlapane Masupye says employment grew in the non-agricultural formal sector.

Statistics South Africa has released its latest Quarterly Employment Statistics.

Employment in South Africa's non-agricultural formal sector grew by 22 000 in the first quarter of 2019.

Clement Manyathela speaks to Statistics SA director for quarterly statistics Matlapane Masupye on the report.

Full-time we are referring to all the people who worked more than 40 hours per week. Part-time is those who work less than 40 hours per week.

Full-time employment increased by 34 000 quarter to quarter while part-time decreased by 12 000 which gives us the 22 000.

For the first quarter, it shows the total number of people employed were paid R688b which see a drop of R40b.
