Is Fikile Mbalula the man to get Cape Town's trains back on track?

Transport Minister Fikile Mbalua has promised commuters in Cape Town that he'll get the city's train service back on track.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday morning Mbalula posted pictures of himself taking the packed Khayelitsha to Langa service while claiming 'WE WILL FIX OUR TRAINS'.

But as EWN's Shamiela Fisher reports, it wasn't exactly a smooth ride for the minister.

The train was delayed for 40 minutes...police later confirmed that two women were struck by a train near Nyanga train station and they died.

On the Central Line there are always delays, it's possibly the worst affected in the Western Cape because of arson attacks and vandalism.

Fisher says she spoke to some of the commuters traveling alongside the Minister and their message to him was clear.

They said, "We don't want words, we want actions. Tell him not to make empty promises to us"

So what DID the Minister say of his department's plans to improve train services?

He has acknowledged that this isn't going to be a quick fix... what they do want to do is ensure there's more security and enforcement on the trains.
