Not a single clean audit for Free State, North West or Limpopo #AGReport

The Auditor-General's latest local government audit results don't make for encouraging reading.

Kimi Makwetu has said of the 2017-2018 results that accountability in local government has continued to deteriorate.

Only 8% of municipalities have received a clean audit. That's 18 out of 257 municipalities.

He says the problems are slow implementation, lack of compliance and clear disregard of the recommendations of the auditor general.

Included in the A-G's report are specific examples of financial mismanagement and irregularity.

(At a municipality) in the Free State R27 million was allocated for a sports complex and 99% of that money was spent, but guess what? There is no sports complex.

Twelve of those municipalities to receive a clean audit are in the Western Cape.

Free State, North West, and Limpopo didn’t have a single clean audit.
