The African National Congress spokesperson dissects the party's stance on Chapter 9 institutions.

African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashule has defended Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's office.

The secretary-general's stance is different from ANC comrades like party chairperson Gwede Mantashe who has questioned whether some of Mkhwebane's decisions are politically motivated.

Bongani Bingwa talks to party spokesperson Pule Mabe about the ANC's stance towards the Public Protector.

The ANC's position as it relates to the Public Protector, particularly Chapter 9 institutions is consistent with the Constitution. We believe that Chapter 9 institutions must be given space to do their work. We issued a statement last week conveying that specific message.

Pule Mabe, Spokesperson - ANC

The statement called on all members to exercise restraint and refrain from making public statements that might undermine or compromise the very standing of the Public Protector. We have a duty in as the ANC to uphold the Constitution.

Pule Mabe, Spokesperson - ANC

Mabe says Mantashe has expressed his personal view on Mkhwebane.

He is allowed, he is a leader and he is entitled to his own views.
