Cape Town commuter describes her daily 6-hour train ordeal to work

Gloria Swarts from Retreat is at her wit's end. She says she has had enough of the bad service from Metrorail, spending at least 6 hours a day travelling and still never arriving at work on time.

She is looking for help from fellow travelers from Retreat and chats to Kieno Kammies about the ordeal she goes through daily.

It's very, very frustrating.

Gloria Swarts, Commuter - Retreat

She says after not using trains for a number of years she was forced to do so after her company moved its premises to Paarden Eiland.

She first tried catching the Golden Arrow bus, but that was very time-consuming and she arrived at work late, so then opted for the train.

But she says the ordeal of the delayed trains is affecting her psychologically.

Our coach at work said, 'Gloria, why don't you try for one work to leave later at 7.30 instead of 6am, and see where that takes you?' And I did that for a week.

She says while she would still see the same people on the station that was there at 6 o'clock it did ease her state of mind.

It was less stress for me because it took away an hour-and-a-half of waiting for a train. And I still get to work at the same time as leaving at 6.

Gloria Swarts, Commuter - Retreat

She still arrives late.

She had a crucial meeting with her boss in Germany last week and left for work very early on that occasion.

I had an important Skype meeting at 9am so left for work super early...trains were cancelled...and I got to work at 11am.

Gloria Swarts, Commuter - Retreat

She says it is a small company and most people leave close to work.

Gloria is asking for anyone travelling to either Paarden Eiland or Cape Town so that she can then use a MYCiTi bus to work.
