'We listened to the state of planning address, we didn't hear anything concrete'

Gauteng Premier David Makhura delivered his State of the Province Address at the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto campus on Monday.

Makhura says there is no doubt that democracy is alive in South Africa, but the economy must still ensure that no one goes to bed hungry.

For reaction to the premier's speech, Ray White on the Xolani Gwala Show chats Democratic Alliance (DA) caucus leader Solly Msimanga.

It was like we listened to the state of planning address, we didn't hear anything concrete. David Makhura tried to paint himself as someone who is new and into a new office when this is his second term in office.

Msimanga says he expected the premier to give a clear report in terms of what he accomplished in the past five years, the failures, and plans going forward.

What we heard today was more planning and I don't think that the people of Gauteng have the patience for plans. They want a concrete plan with clear deadlines on when things are going to happen. We have been getting the runaround on the issues of e-tolls.

He says the DA has given Makhura until the end of August to come with a concrete plan on the issues of e-tolls.

If he doesn't give a concrete plan, we are going to come out with a motion n the legislature that says he must launch an inter-governmental dispute or we are going to take this matter on review. We want him and his ANC caucus to vote against this matter so we can expose that Makhura's stance on e-tolls was just an electioneering gimmick.
